New Orleans, 1902. Disgraced aristocrat Louisa Lebrun and her lover Laurent Martin meet in secret on a humid August afternoon. When a sarcastic remark shifts the tone of the intimate scene from tender to combative, what follows is sex and conversation, intellectual power struggle and erotic stimulation, conflict and catharsis as Louisa arrives at clarity and empowerment despite her fall from grace.
